Principal's Message

Dear Warren Wildcat Community,

It is with great pride that I welcome you to the 2023/24 school year at Warren Elementary.  Warren has a proud history of academic excellence.  We were recently awarded as one of America's Best Urban Schools by the National Center for Urban School Transformation.  Warren was one of only sixteen schools across the nation to receive this prestigious award!  Warren students are able to achieve such great academic success due to the hard work and dedication of our incredible staff.

Our School

The staff and parents at Warren Elementary are committed to student success and achievement in all academic areas as well as the social and emotional realms. We strive to deliver instruction and support to all students so we can equip them with the tools they need to become the very best scholars and citizens they can be.

Student and Emergency Contact Information: It is the parent/guardian’s responsibility to make sure that we have current and accurate information on the Parent Portal at all times. This information is very important should your child become injured or ill. Updating the portal is MANDATORY each school year and is done through the data confirmation process. If there are any changes during the school year, be sure to update the portal as soon as possible. Students will be released only to an adult 18 years or older with a photo ID and listed on the emergency contact list. If you move, two proofs of your new residence must be provided to the office to update your address.

School Hours:

All Grades TK/K-6th

8:20 a.m. - 2:35 p.m. (M, T, Th & F)

8:20 a.m. - 1:40p.m. (Every Wed. - Early Release)

Parent Conferences:

8:20 a.m. - 1:25 p.m. (Early Release)

Students who eat breakfast at school should arrive at 8 a.m. in order to allow enough time to finish eating. All other students may arrive no earlier than 8:05 a.m. to line up outside the gate until it opens at 8:10 a.m. Remember that promptness is important! The first few minutes of the school day set the tone for the entire day. DO NOT drop off students before 8:05 a.m. as there is no supervision available. Boys and Girls Club (all grades) is available after school to families who register their child(ren). Boys and Girls Club applications are available in the office or you may contact them directly at (714) 376-7349 and is available on a first come, first served basis.

Parent Square – VERY IMPORTANT: Parent Square is the main communication tool within GGUSD. It is an app that must be downloaded on mobile devices and computers at home. Warren School and GGUSD share many important dates and announcements through this tool. It is also used for communication in the event of an emergency. Instructions are available in the school office if you need assistance in setting up the app.

Student Drop-Off/Pick-Up: Student safety is a priority at Warren. Remember to drive slowly and be cautious of students who may be crossing the street. DO NOT stop or park in the designated bus lanes. Allow yourself an extra 5-10 minutes when dropping off and picking up your child, as the area around Warren is often congested with heavy traffic at those times. To ensure the safety of all students, note that there are designated drop-off zones in the parking lot, and a turnaround area at the end of the lot. If you prefer to walk with your student to the gate, park in an open spot in the parking lot or in available street parking. DO NOT leave your car unattended in drop-off zones.

Campus and Student Safety: One of our highest priorities at Warren is the safety of our students. Warren will maintain a closed campus during school hours. All visitors MUST sign in at the office and obtain a visitor’s badge. To help ensure the safety of our campus, we ask that students refrain from bringing any toys, sports equipment or sugary drinks (soda, Gatorade, etc.) onto campus, including items in lunches brought from home.

Student Absence Notes: Whenever your child is absent from school, call the office on the morning of the absence. If you are unable to call, send a message to Clayna Hahn (chahn@ggusd.us) with your student’s name, your name and the reason for the absence. Sending a message directly to student’s teacher is NOT sufficient for notifying of your student’s absence. Notes from the doctor must be turned into the office when he/she returns explaining the reason for the absence.

Medications/Assistive Medical Devices: Staff members are not allowed to dispense medication of any kind without written permission from the parent and doctor. Students are NOT allowed to have ANY medication in their backpacks – this includes cough drops and other over the counter medication. All medications must be checked in to the Nurse’s office, which includes a Medication Form signed by your doctor and kept on file in the office. Also, if your child incurs an injury requiring a device such as a sling, crutch, splint or other, a form must be obtained from the health office and completed by the doctor in order to return to school. Forms are available in the school office.

Classroom Parties: The GGUSD policy regarding classroom parties at the elementary level are limited to three events per year planned by the teacher. Items donated for classroom parties must be store bought and in original wrapping. If you would like to bring treats in for your student’s class on his/her birthday, contact his/her teacher to determine the best way to celebrate your child at school.
